Mate in 11

A Wacky Wednesday miniature. Who knew there was a Corn Stalk Defense?

Wow. I bet that guy didn't know what en passant is. Even though it wouldn't have been the best move, I'd have captured e.p. after his c5 just to see him flip out.

I see; certainly not a bad move, though. 6. dxc5 e.p., forking the rook and the d-pawn. Rook moves, and 7. cxd7 wins two pawns. Plus yeah, NN might might wonder what manner of sorcery was afoot to cause his c pawn to disappear so mysteriously. Thanks.

I was looking at that en passant capture too. Sometimes I feel like I can't let an e.p. capture go by without doing it. LOL

This was an online game (G/3), and the cool thing about en passant captures online, at least with most interfaces, is that the captured pawn seems to disappear into thin air, for no obvious reason. It must be disorienting sometimes for the player on the receiving end.

you are so awesome!

Chessdad, who beats me two out of three games or better when we play, is far too kind.

And I should have said in my earlier comment that the en passant capture wins a pawn, not two pawns, since 7. ... Bxd7. To paraphrase the immortal Aragorn, the day may come when I learn something about chess. But this is not that day.

I think it rarely happens in the match as the world championship level.

Indeed, gamechess, if there is one thing I can guarantee, it's that nothing you see on this blog will ever remotely resemble anything that happens on the world championship level. This blog is for chess players on the opposite pole of the spectrum.
